Crimean evening: film screening and discussion about human rights situation in Crimea

On Thursday, December 17, from 4 p.m. till 6 p.m. at hotel Novotel Vilnius Centre (Gedimino pr. 16, Vilnius) Crimean evening will take place.

The screening of the film ‘Crimea Unveiled’ will be followed by the presentation about human rights situation on the Crimean peninsula.

Panellists:

Olga Morkova, documentary director and human rights expert from Sevastopol, Crimea (via Skype);

Tetiana Pechonchyk, Human Rights Information Center / Crimea Human Rights Group (Kyiv, Ukraine);

Aleksandra Krylenkova, Field Human Rights Center (Sankt-Petersburg, Russia).

Human rights and Crimean Tatar activists from Crimea will be also participating in the event.

Film synopsis:

In March 2014, Russia took control over Crimea. This caused mass displacement of indigenous Crimean Tatar minority from Crimea to the Ukrainian mainland. “Crimea Unveiled” is the short documentary featuring Crimean Tatar artist fleeing his homeland to save a collection of traditional national art.

Filmmaker bio:

Olga Morkova is documentary director and human rights expert from Ukraine. She has vast experience in working for UNHCR, OSCE, and IOM addressing the forced migration issues. In March 2014 Ms. Morkova, who appeared to be displaced herself, worked to address the situation of IDPs in Ukraine. The documentary “Crimea Unveiled” features one of the UNHCR beneficiaries whom Ms. Morkova met during her work in the field.

Soundtrack info:

The original soundtrack for the film “Crimea Unveiled” was composed by Fima Chupakhin, and performed by the Crimean Tatar singer Elvira Sarihalil and Ukrainian musician Fima Chupakhin and “Zira” band.
