A presentation in Vienna “Stopping impunity for crimes against journalists: Human rights defenders announce enemies of freedom of speech in Crimea”
On 20 June 2017 in Vienna, the Human Rights Information Centre will host a presentation: “Stopping impunity for crimes against journalists: Human rights defenders announce enemies of freedom of speech in Crimea”.
The event will take place between 16:00 and 17:30 at Hofburg Palace (Michaelerkuppel, 1010, room 533 (fifth floor).
Human rights organizations have analysed facts, and have pinpointed masterminds and perpetrators of systematic attacks on the freedom of speech and expression on the occupied peninsula. The list includes over 50 names of individuals who persecute journalists in Crimea. These include civil servants from the Russian Federation and Crimea, officers of the secret service of the occupation authorities, law enforcement officers, members of the so-called “Crimean Self-Defence” (a paramilitary group that attacked journalists), etc.
Human rights defenders in cooperation with the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine have initiated new personal sanctions and launch of criminal case investigations in mainland Ukraine against those who assault freedom of press in Crimea.
