Four killed and 12 injured in Russian drone strike on Kyiv

A Russian strike with attack drones on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on the evening of 7 October killed four people and injured 12 other residents of the capital, the National Police of Ukraine reported on the morning of 8 October 2026.

According to law enforcement officers, a Russian drone hit a courtyard between apartment blocks in the Obolonskyi District. The attack killed two people and injured seven others. A 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl are among the injured.

Another attack drone hit a multi-storey residential building in the Desnianskyi District. The strike caused a fire and partially destroyed the building’s structures on the 10th floor, the State Emergency Service reported. Two women were killed, and five other residents of the building were injured. Girls aged one and six are among the injured.

 

Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces also struck settlements in the Kharkiv, Kherson, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Regions (Oblasts).

In the Kharkiv Oblast, strikes affected four people. A 67-year-old woman was injured in Kharkiv, and a 30-year-old man suffered an acute stress reaction. A 62-year-old man was injured in Derhachi, and a 70-year-old woman in the village of Dobrenka, Natalynska “hromada”, a local government area that includes one or more nearby settlements.

In the Kherson Oblast, Russian forces struck critical and social infrastructure and residential areas of the oblast’s settlements. A multi-storey building, four private houses and cars were damaged. The attacks injured five people.

In the Sumy hromada, a Russian drone strike injured a 46-year-old woman and two men aged 69 and 49. Two women aged 26 and 50 also sought medical help after being injured on 6 October when a drone hit an apartment block.

According to the Sumy Oblast Military Administration, Russian forces carried out almost 50 strikes on 24 settlements in 11 territorial hromadas of the oblast over a 24-hour period from the morning of 7 October to the morning of 8 October. The largest number of attacks was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka Districts. The total duration of air raid alerts in the oblast was 20 hours and 33 minutes.

In the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Russian forces have attacked two districts with drones and artillery almost 10 times since evening. The Nikopol, Marhanets, Tomakivka and Pokrovske hromadas came under attack in the Nikopol District. In the Synelnykove District, Russian forces attacked the Vasylkivka and Bohdanivka hromadas. A bus was damaged, and a fire also broke out.

In the Zaporizhzhia District, Russian attacks injured three people. In total, Russian forces carried out 970 strikes on 58 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast over the past 24 hours. There were 84 reports of damage to housing, cars and infrastructure facilities.

On the morning of 7 October, Russian forces launched a missile strike on Pryluky in the Chernihiv Oblast. The strike hit a five-storey apartment block, a children’s and youth creativity centre and an enterprise. Search and rescue operations continued throughout the night. As of the morning of 8 October, 22 people are known to have died, including five children. Another 54 people were injured.
