Nine civilians killed in Ukraine by Russian strikes on May 12

Russian shelling killed nine civilians in the Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions, and over thirty others sustained injuries, including in the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Kherson Oblasts, on May 12, 2026, the National Police of Ukraine reported.

In addition to the fatalities, many other civilians sustained injuries, with at least 15 in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast alone. Among them is the nine-month-old granddaughter of the couple killed in Kryvyi Rih, who suffered a leg amputation. Other victims include two teenagers, as well as rescue workers and police officers.

In the Kharkiv Oblast on May 12, five people were injured due to Russian shelling, including residents of Shevchenkove and Vasylenkove.

In the Donetsk Oblast, which was struck by Russia over 1,300 times in a single day using various types of weaponry, four people were injured in Malotaranivka, Iverske, Mykolaivka, and Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka.

Three civilians sustained injuries due to Russian strikes in both the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts.

Another teenager suffered severe wounds in the Sumy Oblast: his family had previously evacuated from the hromada, a local government area that includes one or more nearby settlements, but returned to plant a garden. The boy was caught in a Russian strike while out on the street.

To provide background, over the course of May 11, Russian strikes across Ukraine claimed the lives of four civilians.
