“During the night, the aggressor struck Novhorod-Siverskyi with ‘Geran’ drones. People were sleeping. This attack took the life of a 71-year-old man. Preliminary reports indicate that four people were injured — two men and two elderly women. The victims are currently in the hospital,” Viacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv Oblast Military Administration, said.

He added that over the past day, Russian forces damaged homes and power lines in the Chernihiv Oblast. A drone strike ignited fires in a residential building and a closed school building.

In the Shostka “hromada,” a local government area that includes one or more nearby settlements, in the Sumy Oblast, two women, aged 25 and 35, and two men, aged 34 and 36, were injured in an enemy drone strike. In the Sumy hromada, a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were injured in a drone attack. Additionally, a 33-year-old man was wounded in a drone strike in the Komyshany hromada.

The Sumy Oblast Prosecutor’s Office reported that a Russian drone attacked a civilian car in the Sumy hromada on 8 February, injuring the 19-year-old driver and a 16-year-old passenger. A pre-trial investigation is underway under the supervision of the Sumy District Prosecutor’s Office into the commission of war crimes under Article 438.1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Russian strikes damaged or destroyed civilian infrastructure, including a store, a restaurant, an outbuilding, private households, a passenger car, and non-residential premises.

Russian forces killed two residents in Kramatorsk and Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka in the Donetsk Oblast. Seven others in the region were injured.

The Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office specified that Russian forces dropped a FAB-250 aerial bomb equipped with a UMPK kit on the city of Kramatorsk at 5 a.m. on February 8, killing one woman and injuring three men. Prosecutors reported that the bomb struck near an apartment building.

A 77-year-old woman was killed, while three men aged 40, 46, and 48 sustained shrapnel injuries, blast injuries, concussion, and lacerations.

On January 8, the Russian invaders damaged a total of eight houses, 20 apartment buildings, three administrative buildings, an infrastructure facility, and 20 vehicles in the Donetsk region.

In the Kherson region, eight people were injured due to Russian aggression. Specifically, two people were injured on the morning of February 9.

“At around 06:30, Russian occupation forces attacked Kherson with a drone. A 51-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man came under enemy fire. Preliminarily, they sustained blast injuries and concussions,” the Kherson Oblast Military Administration reported. All the victims have been hospitalized.

Later, local authorities clarified that five women were diagnosed with concussions, blast injuries, closed traumatic brain injuries, burns, and head contusions. The victims are aged 76, 84, 75, 68, and 70. Two of them have been hospitalized.

Over the past day in the Kherson region, Russian forces damaged three apartment buildings, 54 private houses, an administrative building, a gas pipeline, and a private car.

The Air Force Command reported that Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 11 Iskander-M ballistic missiles on the night of February 8-9, as well as with 149 Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas attack UAVs and other types of drones. Around 90 of them were specifically Shahed attack drones.

Early reports indicate that as of 09:30 on February 9, Ukrainian air defense had downed and jammed 116 Russian Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas UAVs and other types of loitering munitions.

In addition, some Iskander-M ballistic missiles were intercepted and therefore failed to reach their targets.

Missile strikes and 23 strike UAV hits were recorded at 15 locations, as well as the fall of debris from downed targets at six locations.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on X that Russian forces have launched more than 2,000 drones against Ukraine in the previous week. Russian forces also attacked with 1,200 guided aerial bombs and 116 missiles.

“Almost every day, they strike energy facilities, logistics infrastructure, and residential buildings. This is happening even as diplomatic efforts for peace are ongoing. The world must not turn a blind eye to Russian attacks. When there is no global response, the strikes become more frequent and increasingly brutal. This can be stopped through real support for Ukraine and our defense. We need missiles for air defense systems and weapons for our warriors, who hold back this aggression every single day,” the President said.

He stressed that for diplomacy to work, constant pressure on Russia is essential.

“The price of this war for them must be so high that the war becomes untenable for the Russian Federation. Thank you to everyone who is working with us to protect lives and bring a just peace closer,” he said.

In other news, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has called for a comprehensive ban on entry into the European Union for Russian citizens who participated in the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“First, it’s about the long-term national security of European states and the protection of their citizens from Russian thugs. Second, this will set the right price for the wrong choices: each Russian who signs a contract to invade Ukraine must know that he also signs himself a lifelong entry ban to Europe,” Sybiha wrote on X.

He pointed out that Estonia has already demonstrated leadership by implementing relevant national decisions and proving that the mechanism works.

“Now it is time to expand this to the entire European Union, and I urge my EU colleagues to take this step seriously,” he added.
