Number of students in Donetsk region schools has almost halved since the start of the full-scale invasion
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the number of students in Donetsk region’s schools has almost halved, from 168,000 to 88,600.
This was reported by the Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Tetiana Sidasheva during a briefing, Ukrinform writes.
She also noted that in the current academic year, the number of students in schools in the Donetsk region has decreased by four thousand
Sidasheva explained this by saying that the students’ parents left the region and found educational institutions in safe areas, meaning that the children evacuated with their families.
The children were changing their distance learning in schools in the Donetsk region and going to schools at their place of temporary residence, which are operating as usual, she said.
It is worth reminding that due to the hostilities and regular missile attacks by the Russian Federation, more than 25% of children currently living in Ukraine are deprived of the opportunity to study.
Earlier, ZMINA reported that a temporary school was opened in the Mykolaiv region to replace the educational institution destroyed by the Russians.
