Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and People’s Deputy, Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, who is being held illegally in a Moscow jail on suspicion of the murder of Russian journalists in the Donbas is coming out of hunger strike with difficulty. She is eating chicken broth and special nutrition mixtures.

According to Ukrayinska Pravda, this was reported to Tass by Mikhail Fedotov, Chairman of the Russian Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights.

“She is coming out of her hunger strike with difficulty, takes stock and special nutrition mixtures which our board member Elizaveta Glinka (Doctor Lisa) delivers to jail. Coming out of fasting is hard and painful and it is impossible to stop the hunger strike immediately,” said Fedotov after visiting Savchenko in jail.

He asserts that Savchenko has no complaints for doctors or the prison administration. German doctors offered her hospitalization in a civilian hospital, but she wrote a statement refusing to do so.

According to her sister Vira, Savchenko decided to stop the hunger strike because of her critical condition. She constantly freezes and complains of severe pain in the heart and stomach. Savchenko also noted in her letter that she wants to gain strength in order to continue the hunger strike.

Ukrainian doctors are surprised by the decision of their Russian counterparts to feed Savchenko chicken broth after 83 days of hunger strike. Lawyers who consulted with Ukrainian doctors told Savchenko that fatty foods in this condition may be life-threatening. In her letter, she asked the Russian doctors to develop a special diet for her. She noted that it is necessary to come out of the hunger strike using juices diluted with water, as well as vegetable and fruit puree.
