Today at noon, the Russian-backed militants delivered 20 Ukrainian prisoners from the uncontrolled territory of Donetsk region with the assistance of the Ukraine’s Ombudsperson, the Human Rights Information Centre correspondent reports on the scene of transfer.

According to representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Yuri Belousov, these twenty people are the so-called transit prisoners. They had to be transferred to other places of detention from the Donetsk remand prison, but the beginning of the military conflict made it impossible to transport people.

Among the delivered there are also the defendants, who should have been earlier involved in forensics.

The successful delivery of the prisoners testifies to the fact that the other party is ready for further dialogue. The Ukrainian Ombudsman is fully aware of the problem and applies every effort to facilitate the process,” Belousov said.

Yuri Belousov hopes that the pro-Russian militants will continue delivering Ukrainian prisoners. In particular, there are preliminary arrangements on the transfer of prisoners from the penal colony in Snezhniansk, Donetsk region.

As a reminder, July 8, at the initiative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska, first nine prisoners were transferred from the territory in Donetsk region, not controlled by the Ukraine’s government.
