Russian public activist Mikhail Agafonov has got refugee status in Ukraine.

He announced this in his blog.

Agafonov, a member of the committee for protection of convicted writer Boris Stomakhin, fled to Ukraine in the autumn of 2014, but received the refugee status only now.

He noted it was “a completely unexpected event.” According to him, Ukraine is reluctant to give such status, especially to Russians. In his blog, Agafonov described the cases of many Russians who could not get asylum in Ukraine for a long time.

Earlier, Russian journalist and blogger Dmitry Shipilov got a refugee status in Ukraine.
