Today, activists demonstrated at the Prosecutor General’s Office demanding punishment against those who tortured members of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

As reported by the Human Rights Information Center correspondent, activists are outraged by the torture of the NABU representatives.

Oleksandra Matviychuk, Head of the board of Center for Civil Liberties comments: “In order to investigate this incident, you need to create a special investigation unit within the national police, a body uninvolved in this ‘war of departments.’ They will check the victims’ statements about the circumstances of the ‘conversation with the prosecutors,’ which occurred in the basement of the Prosecutor General’s Office, with a knife, plastic bag, and threats ‘to send them to the ATO.’”

Recently, NABU opened criminal proceedings against employees of the Prosecutor General who kidnapped and held NABU workers, some of whom were tortured. It’s nearly the first time that an incident of torture has been publicly announced since Euromaidan.
