Ukraine wins 117 medals, ranked third at Paralympic Games in Rio

The Ukrainian team won 117 medals at the XV Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and finished third in the medal table.

As reported by the National Sports Committee for the Persons with Disabilities of Ukraine, 40 Ukrainian Paralympians took part in the last day of competition. The result was 11 medals – three gold, four silver, and four bronze.

The swimmers got gold medals. Yelyzaveta Mereshko was the first in 100m Freestyle S6, showing the result of 1:11.40, setting the world record and her personal record. Viktoria Savtsova won silver medal.

Maksym Veraksa won gold medal in 50m Freestyle S12. Hanna Stetsenko won gold medal in 100m Backstroke S13.

As of Sunday morning, September 18, Ukrainian team ranked third in the medal table, having won a total of 117 medals – 41 gold, 37 silver and 39 bronze medals. China tops the table (105 gold, 81 silver, 51 bronze medals), the UK ranked second (64 gold, 39 silver, 44 bronze medals). U.S. team is slightly behind the Ukrainians with 40 gold, 42 silver and 30 bronze medals. Australia having 79 medals (21, 29, 29) is followed by Germany with 57 medals (18, 25, 14).

The first group of Ukrainian Paralympians will arrive in Kyiv on Thursday night, September 22, at the Boryspil Airport, terminal F.
