In Kremenchuk colony teenagers were cutting their veins and rioting because of the attitude of the staff

On June 14, in Kremenchuk correctional colony, the arrived inmates tried to stir up a riot, demolished the maintenance rooms, broke bathroom fixtures, furniture and cut their hands.

As reported by Oleksandr Savenko, Deputy Prosecutor of Poltava region, to the UNIAN information agency after he arrived at the scene.

According to him, today the prosecutors became aware of the emergency situation in the Kremenchuk correctional colony, where the fact of malicious disobedience of the pupils was recorded.

“Nine of them tried to injure themselves and tried to raise a riot… Their actions manifested in verbal skirmish, damage to the property of the colony… The rooms of the maintenance were partially damaged there, the bathroom fixtures and furniture were destroyed. According to pupils, the reason for such behavior was an inappropriate attitude of the institution’s employees: they said it was nitpicking, which offends their honor and dignity”, – said Savenko.

At the same time, he noted that some of the pupils behaved similarly in other colonies before yesterday’s transfer to Kremenchuk.

“We are also verifying the possibility of the special destabilization of the situation. I have not heard the version that they were forbidden to smoke and use mobile phones, which is illegal, that is spread by journalists”, – said Savenko.

He also reported that pupils had injured their hands and now they are checking who and what was injured.

“These bodily injures are now being studied by doctors… A complex check will be carried out in the colony”, – said the Deputy Regional Prosecutor.

According to him the data on the basis of physical injuries has been entered to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under the Article concerning the proper performance of duties by the employees of the institution.

At the same time, on June 15, the press-service of the Prosecutor’s Office of Poltava region reported that “on June 14 nine inmates of the Kremenchuk Correctional Colony State Institution demanded the weakening of the established regime, while being in the quarantine, diagnosis and distribution section, namely to allow the use of prohibited items”.

After the employees refused to comply with the requirements, the inmates behaved aggressively and damaged the property in the rooms of the institution. 8 of them cut their hands with shards of glass, tiles and mirrors.

Kremenchuk local Prosecutor’s Office have included the information about this fact in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under part 3 of Article 120 (driving a person into suicide in respect of a minor) and part 1 of Article 137 (failure to perform or improper performance of professional or official duty with regard to life safety and health care of minors resulting from neglect or careless discharge of this duty, where this has significantly deteriorated health of the victim) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In addition, the Kremenchuk Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the region have registered criminal proceedings under part 1 of Article 194 (willful destruction or endamagement of somebody else’s property, where it caused gross damage) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In addition, the Kremenchuk local Prosecutor’s Office is examining the Kremenchuk correctional facility administrators’ actions.
