Zelenskyy commented on Putin’s “Easter ceasefire”
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the Russian drone attack after 5 pm on April 19, 2025, evidence of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin’s true attitude towards Easter and human life.
“Regarding Putin’s latest attempt to play with people’s lives – an air raid alert is currently spreading across Ukraine. At 5:15 pm, Russian attack drones were detected in our skies. Ukrainian air defense and aviation have already begun working to protect. “Shaheds” in our skies are Putin’s true attitude towards Easter and people’s lives,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
By way of background, on April 19, Vladimir Putin , suspected by the International Criminal Court, announced an “Easter ceasefire”, which supposedly entails the cessation of all hostilities in Ukraine from the evening of April 19th until midnight on April 21st. At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Russian occupiers would adhere to the ceasefire regime provided by Kyiv reciprocates.
Previously, the so-called “energy ceasefire” failed. On April 14, Zelenskyy accused the Russians of openly refusing to observe the ceasefire 34 days ago and stated that Putin remains focused on continuing the war.
The President of Ukraine stated that it had been 34 days since Ukraine responded positively to the US proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire, aimed at stopping all strikes on cities such as Sumy, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, Kupiansk, and Beryslav, as well as along the entire front line. He noted that for 34 days, Russia openly ignored this proposal and that currently, just as in previous years, Putin was focused on continuing the war.
Zelenskyy also pointed out that Russian state propagandists were preparing their audience for the notion that diplomacy and negotiations would not yield results.
He further asserted that there was only one reason for this: Moscow was not currently afraid, and without sufficiently strong pressure on Russia, they would continue their usual course of action, which was to keep fighting.
