Pupils of boarding schools to travel 5,000 km to draw attention to problems of orphans
Former pupils of boarding schools, adopted children with their families and teachers went on a bike tour “Ukraine and World Without Orphans”, launched to draw attention to the problems of orphans.
The participants plan to travel 5,000 kilometers in Ukraine and the EU countries within eight weeks. They note: hundreds of thousands of children are living in Ukrainian orphanages today. One child dies in them every three days. System of boarding schools does not justify itself, and Ukraine should abandon it. Participants hope that a day will come when Ukraine and the world will have neither orphans nor boarding schools.
The bike tour is supported by Ukrainian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Mykola Kuleba. He will travel together with participants, according to him, “as much as he can.”
Hennadiy Mokhnenko, the founder of Charitable Foundation “Pilgrim” and initiator of the tour, will coordinate the action.
