Number of inmates in Ukraine reduces by almost 7%

The number of people, who are staying in the penitentiary facilities in Ukraine, decreased by 3,434 persons (or 4.68%) over a year.

69,997 people are serving sentence now (excluding the uncontrolled territories of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions).

16,615 people are staying in the remand prisons (compared to 16,035 people last year).

6,700 people were released from remand prisons last year.

 The number of convicted persons decreased from 56,954 to 53,034 people (by 3,920 people or 6.88%).
