Ukraine among leaders in number of suits filed at ECHR
Ukraine is the leader in the number of suits filed at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
President of the European Court of Human Rights Guido Raimondi unveiled statistics of his activity for 2015 at the press conference in Strasbourg, Yevropeiska Pravda (European Truth) online newspaper reports.
From among 65,000 cases, 21.4% were filed against Ukraine. It is followed by Russia with 14.3%, and Turkey (13%).
The vast majority of the Ukrainian cases are old property disputes.
It is noteworthy that despite the leadership of Ukraine in the number of cases, it ranks only thirteenth in the number of individual plaintiffs. The worst figures are shown by Hungary, Liechtenstein and Moldova.
Ukraine ranks fourth in number of judgments (50) over human rights violations delivered by the ECHR in 2015. Russia ranks first (109), followed by Turkey (72) and Romania (72).
