Ukraine cannot accept ICC jurisdiction ‘because of servicemen’ – Presidential Administration
Ukraine cannot accept the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) because of the armed hostilities in Donbas.
This was stated by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, Secretary of the Constitutional Commission Oleksiy Filatov in the Constitutional Court, where consideration of the constitutional amendments on the judiciary continues, UNIAN news agency reports.
“The acceptance of the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court will cause both potentially positive effects and certain risks for Ukraine, in particular, from the point of view of Ukrainian servicemen who are forced to participate in the military conflict,” Filatov said.
“Taking into account these reasons and hoping that this conflict will be finally resolved next year or a bit later, the subject of the constitutional initiative proposed a transition period in order to properly prepare this solution in terms of practical implementation,” he added.
As reported, the Constitutional Court has started consideration of the constitutional amendments on the judiciary in form of hearing.
