According to the declaration, Ukraine is ready to accept the US proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire after today’s peace talks. The joint statement came during discussions between Ukrainian and American officials in Saudi Arabia.

“Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the US proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties and is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation. The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace,” it reads.

The statement adds that the proposed ceasefire will be extendable by mutual agreement of both parties and is subject to Russia’s acceptance and implementation.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a news conference in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia said that the US has made an offer, which the Ukrainians have accepted, “to enter into a ceasefire and enter into negotiations to end this conflict in a way that is enduring and sustainable.”

He said that they would “take this offer now to the Russians” and “hope” they would say yes.

“The ball is in their court,” Rubio adds, and tells reporters that President Trump wants the war to end.

BBC News pointed out that Marco Rubio was asked if they accept any goodwill gestures from Russia or if there is a deadline.

Rubio said “Ukraine is ready to stop shooting and start talking.”

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s top aide, Andriy Yermak—who was also part of the Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia—posted on X stating that protecting Kyiv’s interests is the “most important thing” while a “just peace” is “key.”

He thanks the US and Saudi officials for a “constructive meeting”
