In Sumy Prosecutors who persecuted Euromaidan activists are served with charges

Former Prosecutor deputies of Sumy are served with charges on the case of misconduct regarding activists of the Revolution of Dignity in early 2014.

As reported by the press-service of the General Prosecutor’s Office.

“Thus, according to collected evidence charges were served to former Prosecutor deputies of Sumy, who are charged with organizing and coordinating activities of subordinate employees in engaging knowingly innocent people (participants of peaceful protests) to criminal liability, attempted unlawful detention committed with the purpose of illegal prevention of meetings, rallies, marches and demonstrations”, – said in a statement.

It is noted that one of the suspects currently holds the position of chief of department of the Prosecutor’s Office of Sumy region.

Actions of suspects are qualified under part 2 Art. 343 (interference with activity of a law enforcement officer, employee of state enforcement office, private bailiffs), part 1 Art. 372 (prosecution of a knowingly innocent person), part 4 Art. 27, part 2 Art. 15, part 2 Art. 371 (knowingly unlawful apprehension, taking into custody, arrest or detention), Art. 340 (illegal interference with the organization or holding of assemblies, rallies, marches and demonstrations) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court made a motion to elect a measure of restraint for suspects.

The General Prosecutor’s Office reported that the pre-trail investigation regarding other accomplices of these crimes is continuing, former Chief of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sumy region is wanted.
