Ombudsperson receives 359 complaints about discrimination last year

In 2015, the Ukrainian Parliament Human Rights Commissioner received 359 complaints about discrimination.

This is stated in the annual report of the Ombudsperson.

The largest number of complaints about discrimination (62) concerned discrimination because of religious beliefs. 31 applicants informed about discrimination because of health condition, 22 – because of place of residence, 19 – disability, 17 – ethnicity.

The report says that the Ombudsperson opened 52 initiative proceedings over discrimination following the media reports. This number is 2.5 times as greater as that in 2014. The majority of the proceedings (eight) concerned discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation. In addition, seven cases over anti-Semitism and six cases over racism were investigated.
