Crimean drivers to be punished for Ukrainian number plates

The prosecutor’s office of the Russian de facto authorities in Crimea has developed the procedure for holding liable the drivers for not changing Ukrainian number plates into Russian ones before April 1.

This is reported by the Center for Investigative Journalism with reference to the press service of the agency.

According to the developed procedure, a verbal warning in accordance with Article 2.9 of the Administrative Offences Code of the Russian Federation will be first made to the drivers of the vehicles, which are not registered in the established order after April 1, 2016. In case of failure to take measures and change the registration documents and state registration plates, such citizens will be held administratively liable under Part 1 of Article 12.1 of the Administrative Offences Code of the Russian Federation (driving of motor vehicle, not registered in the prescribed manner, the vehicle that have not passed the state technical inspection),” reads the statement.

Russia approved the resolution, obliging the Crimean residents to register the number plates in accordance with the Russian law, in November last year.
