On June 11, an unknown person shot a woman of Romani origin in Kyiv.

As reported by the Romani radio Chiriklo on its Facebook page.

“After the eviction of Roma families from the Berezniaky in Kyiv and the murder of the Roma leader in the village of Vil’shany of Kharkiv region, such case causes concern”, – noted in the radio station and promise to monitor the investigation of the murder.

According to the police, an unknown person shot a woman in the Sviatoshyn district of Kyiv. She died from received injuries in the ambulance.

The special investigating group of the Sviatoshyn Police Department, which was dispatched to the murder scene, seized three spent bullet shells, presumably from traumatic weapon, and sent them for examination.

The deceased, a native of the Dnipropetrovsk region, born in 1964, was lying on the side of the road when an accidental passer-by saw her.

According to media reports, the unknown man shot her three times: in the shoulder, hip and back (between the shoulder blades). Last wound was probably fatal.

The Investigation Department of the Sviatoshyn Administartion initiated a pre-trial investigation under part 1 of Article 115 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code.

“This is a tragedy, whatever the motives. Based on the constant discussions that people want to kick out Romani people from one area or from another district of Kyiv – it is important for the investigators to consider the motive of hatred, or at least to take a closer look at this murder”, –  as commented Olga Vesnianka, public activist and journalist of Chiriklo Radio, on the situation.

As a reminder, in early April the Romani camp was burned in Berezniaky in Kyiv. The camp was abandoned by tenants due to threats.

As a reminder, on May 16, a conflict took place in the village of Vil’shany of Kharkiv region between a group of Roma and head of the village. During the meeting on resolving the conflict, armed men came out on the side of the head of the village. As a result of the conflict, one Romani man was killed from firearms and three more were injured by traumatic weapons.

At the same time, according to human rights defenders, signatures were collected for the eviction of a national minority from the village after the murder of Roma Mykola Kaspitsky in Vil’shany of Kharkiv region.
