Cases of six investigators prosecuting Euromaidan activists submitted to court

The Special Investigations Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine has completed the preliminary investigation into the criminal proceedings against six investigators, who illegally detained and held liable Euromaidan activists.

This is reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine (PGO).

As reported, the proceedings were initiated against former first deputy chief of the Dniprovsky district police department in Kyiv – the chief of the investigation department, the deputy chief of the investigation department and four investigators of the same department, who illegally detained and held liable 11 innocent persons for alleged participation in the riots in Kyiv on February 18, 2014.

Actions of the chief of the investigation department and his deputy were qualified as organization of these crimes committed by prior conspiracy of a group of persons under the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The actions of the investigators were qualified as perpetrators of criminal offenses under the articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on abuse of power and office, fraud, knowingly unlawful detention and prosecution of knowingly innocent person, combined with fabrication of evidence, falsification and charge of a serious crime.

After the suspects and their lawyers familiarize with the case files, the indictments will be sent to court. Two of the suspects have been working in the National Police until recently.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The evidences are gathered to prosecute other organizers and perpetrators of these crimes (police officers, prosecutors and judges).
