The High Qualification Commission of Judges cancelled the veto on election of the Deputy Prosecutor General Anzhela Stryzhevska to a position of the new Supreme Court judge imposed by the Public Integrity Council.

The respective resolution was passed by the Commission on the meeting on June 26th, as reported by the Ukrainian News.

Previously, Public Integrity Council imposed veto on election of Stryzhevska to a position of the new Supreme Court judge based on the accusation of conflict of interest and mismatch of the Deputy Prosecutor General’s income and expense level.

Stryzhevska also did not mention that she was pressed with criminal charges in 2006.

The members of High Qualification Commission of Judges still decided to support the candidate.

Thirteen members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges voted for cancellation of the Public Integrity Council’s veto, while the minimum required number of votes is 11. The only one member of Commission voted against cancellation.

Therefore, the Commission recognized that Stryzhevska satisfies the criteria of integrity and professional competence.

As you may already know, on June 6th, the High Qualification Commission of Judges started to consider veto imposed by the Public Integrity Council upon the candidates to the judge position at the new Supreme Court.

In July 2016, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko appointed Anzhela Stryzhevska as his Deputy.

Previously, Stryzhevska occupied a position of the Prosecutor General Office’s Reform and Quality Assurance Department Director.

In 2005, Stryzhevska was a judge at the Kyiv City Pechersk District Court and passed a judgement on arrest of politician Boris Kolesnikov.

In 2006, a criminal case was opened against Stryzhevska upon suspicion of falsification of judgement on closing the criminal case against National Security Agency officers, who destroyed the materials of operational and investigational actions regarding the activity of Russian businessman Semen Mogilevich.

She also occupied a position of parliamentary assistant, where she aided Grygoriy Omelchenko, the People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of 6th convocation from Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, and was a judge at the Kyiv Court of Appeal.

In 2006, Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc proposed to appoint Stryzhevska the judge of Constitutional Court.
