Sentsov held in probationary ward in Yakutia colony

Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, sentenced to 20 years in prison in Russia, is being held in a probationary ward in a Yakutia colony.

This was reported by chairwoman of the Public Monitoring Committee of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Valentina Kirillina, Radio Liberty reports.

March 29 this year, the members of the Public Monitoring Committee got acquainted with the conditions of detention of convicted Oleg Sentsov, who stayed in a probationary ward. The conditions are satisfactory. At the time of the visit, seven people were in the dormitory. The beds were clean. There were a refrigerator, clean drinking water, a radio in the dining room,” she said.

He [Sentsov] expressed satisfaction with the conditions, quality and sufficiency of meals, treatment on part of staff. He had good mood. He expressed the opinion that the conditions were much better than that in the central facilities,” Kirillina added.

As a reminder, key defendant in “the case of Crimean terrorists” Oleg Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years in prison on August 25 last year on charges of “organizing a terrorist group.”
