The Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General stated that a Russian soldier shot a civilian dead who was trying to evacuate from a dangerous area in the Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainian prosecutors have launched an investigation into the latest war crime committed by Russian forces.

Prosecutors found a video on a Telegram channel showing a civilian attempting to evacuate from the village of Udachne in Donetsk Oblast’s Pokrovsk District. The man was walking along the roadside, carrying a suitcase with his few remaining personal belongings.

A Russian soldier, hiding in a makeshift position inside a destroyed building, opened fire with an automatic weapon and killed the man in cold blood.

Prosecutors have entered the case into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 438.2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – a war crime resulting in death.

Under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office, Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) investigators are conducting the pre-trial inquiry. They are taking urgent action to clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify the Russian military personnel involved.

Prosecutors noted that this is the third documented case this year of Russian troops executing civilians in the Donetsk Oblast.

ZMINA continues to report on the ongoing international crimes in the Donetsk Oblast.
