Russian shelling across six Ukrainian regions leaves multiple dead and injured
Russian military shelling overnight and on the morning of 8 September 2026 resulted in fatalities, injuries and destruction across Kyiv and the Kyiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa Regions (Oblasts), the respective regional military administrations and the State Emergency Service reported.
Two people were killed and 10 injured in the overnight Russian strike on Kyiv. Emergency services are still working at the attack sites in the capital, so the figures may change. As a result of the attack, some public transport routes had to be altered.
Russians attacked the premises of the We-Ukraine and We Ukraine+ TV channels again. The main strike hit the newsroom and offices, and there were casualties.
At the time of the attack, the TV channel was broadcasting live on the United News national telethon.
In Kyiv Oblast, the Russian strike left considerable destruction.
In Odesa, Russian forces hit a market in the suburbs. Currently, no data on fatalities or injuries has been received.
In the morning, Russian forces attacked the diesel locomotive of the Kyiv-Sumy train at a railway station in the Sumy Oblast; there were no fatalities or injuries. The Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts were also targeted overnight, with no reports of fatalities or injuries from there.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha pointed out on Х that the moment the US president’s peace envoys left, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin launched another massive, horrific attack against Kyiv, damaging residential areas. He urged countries not to delay action in order to save Ukrainian lives.
“Every interceptor provided to Ukraine now is a saved life. Missiles in stocks, including those nearing their expiry date, should work to protect Ukrainian skies,” he wrote.
Sybiha also called on countries to follow Germany’s example and close all “Russian houses” in Europe.
“Russian influence networks cannot be allowed to continue operating while Russia refuses to end its war of aggression. We urge our allies to act and increase pressure on the aggressor. Pressure on Moscow advances diplomacy—it does not obstruct it. Stronger pressure brings peace closer,” Sybiha concluded.
Ukrainian experts point out that countries, including China, Greece, North Korea, India, Hungary, Slovakia, Iran, and Brazil, assist Moscow in killing Ukrainians in its war against Ukraine by funding the Russian budget through trade.
Human rights organisations and Ukrainian authorities emphasise that structural economic pressure remains a key tool to halt such atrocities. They urge every nation and individual government worldwide to strictly enforce global sanctions, close existing regulatory loopholes, and completely sever remaining commercial and technological ties with the Russian Federation. Civil society groups stress that any continued cooperation by foreign businesses directly contributes to the resources Moscow uses to sustain its ongoing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine.
