Russian forces carried out a missile attack on the city centre of Kharkiv on the morning of August 6, 2024, damaging a clinic building. President Zelenskyy reported in a video address that Russians killed one person and injured twelve others.

“Rescue efforts continue in Kharkiv following the Russian strike. People remain trapped under the rubble, and we’re providing help to the greatest possible extent. As of now, twelve individuals have sustained injuries, and one, regrettably, has lost their life,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Prior to the strike, the Air Force of Ukraine had reported activity by Russian tactical aircraft in the northeast and warned of the threat of ballistic missile attacks from the east.

The Mayor of the City of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, confirmed that the Russian attack damaged a clinic building in the city centre.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, stated that preliminary information indicates the Russians used an Iskander missile to attack Kharkiv, causing damage to civilian premises, including a clinic building, cars and residential infrastructure, and shattering windows.

In addition, Russian Armed Forces killed two civilians in a bombardment of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, according to Ivan Fedorov, the head of Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration, on Telegram.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated calls for allies to expedite deliveries of the air defense systems Ukraine relies on, particularly US-made Patriots.

“We need sufficiently courageous decisions from our partners – enough air defense systems, enough range,” he said.

Zelenskyy previously also appealed to world leaders who are still not on board with the Global Peace Summit to join the collective effort. He called on them to show leadership in advancing real peace, not just a pause between strikes.

Ukrainian President expressed confidence that the efforts of the global majority are the best guarantee that all commitments will be fulfilled.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin claimed that Russia would not participate in the next Peace Summit. He called Zelenskyy’s peace formula an ultimatum and added that Russia would not take part in such summits.
