European Pravda news outlet, citing an unnamed diplomat from an EU member state in Brussels, reported that EU foreign ministers will discuss the bloc’s 19th sanctions package against Russia for the first time at a ministerial level during an informal meeting in Copenhagen, on August 29-30.
The diplomat said the foreign ministers plan to discuss the new Russia sanctions package at the informal Gymnich-format meeting that Denmark, the current EU presidency holder, is organizing.
The diplomat said the agenda will include a separate item on increasing pressure on Russia, particularly through sanctions and countering Russia’s shadow fleet.
A Gymnich meeting is an informal gathering of EU foreign ministers held every six months under the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, a tradition dating to 1974.
