Meanwhile, the US-based Institute for the Study of War assessed that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin has no intention of ending the war in Ukraine, influencing Russians who tend to side with the Kremlin on continuing the war.

Putin has indicated no urgency to conclude the war in Ukraine, emphasizing Russia’s resilience despite increasing pressures and the impending change in U.S. leadership with President-elect Donald Trump’s return. During his annual televised event, Putin highlighted Russia’s steadfastness, even amidst slow and costly advances in Ukraine and significant monthly troop losses. Facing economic challenges, including rising inflation and a shifting military focus after the collapse of Assad’s regime in Syria, he underscored Russia’s ongoing military strength and readiness for negotiations while asserting that Ukraine was unprepared.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned in an interview with Russian propaganda news agency RIA Novostit that Russians will resume fighting following any short-term ceasefire with Ukraine. According to Ryabkov, Russia wants a long-term peace agreement on Ukraine that addresses the “root causes of the conflict” rather than a quick US-backed ceasefire followed by a renewed outbreak of hostilities.
