Russia violated Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (right to respect for private and family life) in the case of Ukrainian citizen Gennady Afanasyev.

Such a conclusion was made by the Syktyvkar City Court of the Komi Republic of the Russian Federation, where the Crimean resident is serving his sentence.

According to the court, the transfer of Afanasyev so far from his native Crimea is not reasonable and creates unnecessary barriers to visits by relatives.

The mentioned facts testify to the violation of Afanasyev’s right to respect for family life guaranteed by Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights,” the court summed up.
