Russia refuses to report on compliance with rules of warfare
Russia has blocked the proposal for the annual report on compliance with the Geneva Convention.
According to the BBC Russian service, Russia, followed by several other countries, blocked this proposal at the meeting of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva.
As AFP reports, several countries expressed concern that such a report may resemble the reports of the UN Human Rights Council, which, according to some countries, had become too politicized.
ICRC President Peter Maurer warned that the conventions, requiring humane treatment of civilians, captives and the wounded, were often violated.
“By refusing to support this initiative, the countries missed the opportunity to help protect millions of people,” Maurer said.
As reported, the Parliament of Russia gave the Russian Constitutional Court the right to recognize it impossible to enforce the judgments of the international courts.
