On April 10 in Odessa, President Petro Poroshenko called for the abolition of judicial immunity, reports Ukrinform.

“The rights of citizens to a fair trial can be strengthened through judicial reform. But, immediately after the triumph of the Revolution of Dignity, it became clear that the simple re-election of judges is not enough to change the situation. This is because it is a caste whose members will re-elect themselves, reviving the old days,” the President is convinced.

“That is why I have proposed amendments to the Constitution, one of which would be the abolition of judicial immunity. For what? To fight the judicial mafia,” said Petro Poroshenko.

The President noted that the judicial system must be replenished with new staff who respect justice.

On February 24th, the President signed the Law “On Ensuring the Right to a Fair Trial,” which experts criticized because it left the levers of political influence on the judicial branch in place.
