Representative of Ukrainian Ombudsperson to monitor observance of human rights in Prosecutor General’s Office
Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko will appoint Vyacheslav Svyrets, the regional coordinator of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in Rivne region, as the head of the Prosecutor General’s Office department for observance of human rights.
Lutsenko said this to reporters after inspection of the pretrial detention facility of the Ukraine’s Security Service, Ukrayinski Novyny news agency reports.
“I and Mrs. Ombudsperson have taken the decision, on her proposal, to change the head of the Prosecutor General’s Office department for observance of human rights in the places of detention. Svyrets is a rather well-known human rights activist. He has come to Kyiv and prepares the documents now,” he said.
According to Lutsenko, the observance of human rights should be monitored by a person outside the system.
“I looked through his Facebook page and saw that he was concerned by the problems of health care, everyday problems, legislative issues. I need such a person,” he said.
Lutsenko stressed that the first task of Svyrets would be to withdraw medical aid services from the department of the execution of sentences.
