Amendment on employment non-discrimination not affects issues of marriage, family – Poroshenko
The President said this during the meeting with the leaders of the parliamentary factions on Monday, the “Ukrayinska Pravda” (Ukrainian Truth) Ukrainian media outlet reports.
“Being the President, the Orthodox Christian, the person who has been married for 31 years and loves his wife, the father of four children, I advocate preserving the family values, traditional for Ukrainian society. However, being the guarantor of the Constitution, I am categorically set against discrimination of any of the Ukrainian citizens on any ground,” he said.
The President stressed that the amendment to the Labour Code with regard to the ban on employment discrimination should be voted. It refers exclusively to employment relations and does not affect the issues of marriage and family.
Poroshenko also stressed the importance of passing the rest of the bills, necessary for implementation of the technical conditions to get the visa-free regime with the EU for Ukrainian citizens.
“I am sure that the MPs, the coalition members will have enough wisdom and responsibility to pass the laws which directly relate to the visa-free regime,” he said.
“I bindingly state that now the fate of the visa-free regime depends on this vote,” the Head of State said.
As a reminder, November 5, the Ukrainian Parliament voted down the provision on LGBT non-discrimination within the “visa-free package.”
