Overnight Russian attacks hit railway in Poltava, energy site in Sumy, civilians in Kherson; two killed, five injured (updated)
At least two civilians were killed and five others wounded in the Kherson region, while material damage was reported in the Sumy and Poltava regions following Russian shelling on the night of October 7, 2025, according to the National Police of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service (SES), and the local oblast military administrations.

Russia launched more than 150 drones and missiles overnight, of which the Ukrainian Air Force reported shooting down over 80 drones. Two missiles and 52 attack UAVs were identified, hitting 10 locations, with debris from shot-down weapons falling at 2 other locations.
The Kherson Oblast Prosecutor’s Office reported that Russians dropped explosives from a drone on a public transport stop in the city of Kherson on the morning of October 7, killing a 65-year-old man on the spot and injuring a 70-year-old man, who was hospitalized.
“Our investigators revealed that Russian forces had dropped explosives from an unmanned aerial vehicle onto a public transport stop in the Korabelnyi District of the city of Kherson on October 7, at around 06:30,” the statement reads.
Moreover, the Kherson Oblast Military Administration reported that a 70-year-old woman was wounded in Antonivka after Russian occupying forces shelled the area around 7 a.m. She sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to her legs and was taken to the hospital in moderate condition.
Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Oblast Military Administration, reported on the Russian attack on the village of Stepanivka.
“Rescue workers recovered the body of a man from under the rubble of the building. His identity is currently being established,” Prokudin said. Three women aged 51, 18, and 69 were also taken to the hospital. They suffered concussions, blast injuries, and closed head trauma.
They received medical treatment and will continue their recovery on an outpatient basis.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy“Putin [Russian ruler Vladimir Putin] does not know how to wage war without terror. Russia would not have a single missile or most of its drones, and therefore would not be able to cause significant damage to our energy sector, if they were unable to purchase or somehow import Western-made components for missiles and Shaheds, as well as components and machinery from South Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan. Unfortunately, many critical components continue to be supplied to Russia from Europe and the U.S., and we are not talking about a dozen components, but hundreds of thousands of components, purely commercial supplies,” — the President said, pointing out that the direct consequence of all this is that the Russians are “terrorizing our country, threatening other countries, behaving despicably, and refusing to make peace”.
China, North Korea, India, and Brazil also assist Moscow in killing Ukrainian citizens through Russia’s war, including funding the Russian budget through trade.
