Former Interior Ministry officer suspected of organizing violence during Euromaidan protests

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine (PGO) has served a notice of suspicion against ex-head of the public security office of the Interior Ministry department in Kyiv. He gave the illegal order to the Berkut special riot police force and the servicemen of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine to apply impact munitions and physical violence against Euromaidan activists and journalists.

This is reported by the PGO’s press service.

More than 29 protesters and 22 media representatives were injured as a result of this order.

In addition, with respect to those events, the head of the office is charged of a criminal offence under Part 1, Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – neglect of official duty failure to provide adequate protection for fighters of internal troops and patrol service, resulting in injuries of 26 people,” the statement reads.

The court placed the suspect under a house arrest.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reminded that five persons from among the country’s leadership and law enforcement bodies and five law enforcement officers, the performers of illegal acts, had been served the notices of suspicion within the proceedings over the events of December 1, 2013.

The PGO submitted the indictments against three persons in the court. Six suspects are wanted.

Pre-trial investigation against other organizers and perpetrators of these events is ongoing.

As reported, June 23, the PGO’s investigators detained four former Berkut riot police officers, suspected of murders of Euromaidan protesters on February 18, 2014.
