EU extends sanctions against Russia

The European Union has officially extended the sanctions against Russia until July 31, 2016.

The relevant decision, taken by the European officials yesterday, was published in the Official Journal of the European Union today.

The document says that the decision shall enter into force upon its publication.

As a reminder, the EU imposed economic and visa restrictions on Russia to stop aggression against Ukraine in 2014.

A total of 41 countries, including the EU Member States, the US, Canada, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, introduced the sanctions against Russia.
