Interpol has refused to issue an international arrest warrant for Dmitro Sadovnik, the Berkut commander who, along with two other special services officers, is suspected in the murder of 39 activists during the Euromaidan protests in January and February 2014.

Ukrayinska Pravda reports, referencing Ukrayinski Novyny, that this was stated by the head of the Special Investigations Unit of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Sergiy Gorbatyuk.

“Interpol has refused to put him on the wanted list,” he said.

Gorbatyuk noted that Sadovnik is in Russia.

He added that the issue of extradition in Sadovnik’s case is complicated because he is not being put on the international wanted list, so the GPU can not apply for his extradition.

Earlier, in March and April 2014, law enforcement officers detained Sergiy Zinchenko and Pavlo Abroskin, former members of Berkut, along with their commander, Dmitro Sadovnik. They are suspected in the shooting of Euromaidan protesters on Institutska street in Kyiv on February 20, 2014. A judge from the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv, Svitlana Volkova, issued her decision on September 19, 2014 to release Sadovnik from custody. He escaped from house arrest on October 3rd.
