Ukrainian lawmakers preliminary approve amendments to Constitution

The Parliament of Ukraine has preliminary approved the bill No. 3524 on the amendments to the Constitution related to judiciary.

The decision was supported by 244 MPs out of 356 lawmakers registered in the session hall, UNIAN news agency reports.

The constitutional amendments were supported by 122 MPs from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction out of 138 faction members. The bill was supported by 65 out of 81 People’s Front faction members. The Samopomich faction members did not vote. Almost the entire faction of the Radical Party did not vote as well.

As for Batkivshchyna faction, 19 out of 13 lawmakers voted “for.” Only two members from among 43 lawmakers from the Opposition Bloc voted “for” (Ivan Myrny and Mykhailo Papiyev).

Fourteen unaffiliated parliamentarians supported the amendments (out of 49).

As a reminder, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine yesterday ruled that the revised bill on the constitutional amendments related to judiciary complied with the relevant provisions of Article 157 and 158 of the Fundamental Law.
