Gay Alliance Ukraine reports that, on the verge of KyivPride2015, a campaign in support of the human rights festival has been launched. A series of thematic posters with images of public figures who support Pride have been posted on social media.

KyivPride already has the support of Sergiy Leshchenko, an MP from the “Petro Poroshenko Bloc” and former journalist, writer and TV presenter Larisa Denisenko, writer Irena Karpa, radio presenter Iryna Slavinska, and others.

On June 6, Equality March is scheduled to take place as the key event of KyivPride.

Earlier, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities, and International Relations, Hryhoriy Nemyria, addressed Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko with a request to provide security during the events, which will include a conference for LGBT activists scheduled for June 2-8.

Earlier, LGBT activists inquired about why LGBT rights had not been mentioned in the National Human Rights Strategy and demanded to change it. Deputy Justice Minister Anton Yanchuk responded that the LGBT community is indirectly mentioned in the text (“overcoming discrimination on any grounds”), and that the document is not final.
