Khatia Dekanoidze, the Head of the National Police of Ukraine, hopes the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will support improvements to the legislation on the activities of Ukrainian police.

We will submit a very important legislative package, including on patrol police and criminal bloc, in September,” she told reporters on Thursday in Kyiv, during the celebrations of the Day of National Police of Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reports.

She added: “I hope that the Parliament will support [legislative changes].”

Dekanoidze also assured that she would make every effort for the National Police of Ukraine to be the most modern in the world.

She congratulated police officers on their professional holiday and noted that the most important achievement of the National Police was the increase in the level of trust of Ukrainians.

Eight months have passed since the National Police was born and has been working for the benefit of the Ukrainian people. We have a lot of problems, a lot of tasks, very long and routine way ahead. However, the most important thing is that people trust the police. Half of our population, actually 50%, trust the national Police,” she said.

Dekanoidze also added that the process of police reform in Ukraine should go on.

You know, we are often asked when the reform will be over. The reform is a process that never stops. The reform is like a living organism, and once you stop it and do not continue the reforms, the body dies,” she said.
