Prosecutor’s Office to find out whether journalists Sheremet, Prytula were spied upon
The criminal proceeding has been initiated against First Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine Vadym Troyan on suspicion of illegally organized spying upon Ukrayinska Pravda newspaper executives Pavlo Sheremet and Olena Prytula.
Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said this on the air of 112 TV channel on Saturday, Ukrayinska Pravda online newspaper reports.
Answering the question whether he can confirm or deny the information about Troyan’s spying upon Sheremet and Prytula, Lutsenko said: “I can say we are verifying the information. There is a relevant criminal proceeding. And the process is already under way,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze said on the air of 112 TV channel on Sunday that Troyan was currently on vacations.
Moreover, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko is indignant at the fact the video from the Sheremet’s parking lot leaked to the internet the day before murder.
“I was very angry to find out that the video was released on the Internet. It is not even about legal or illegal action. Of course, it is illegal. In addition, it simply destroys the secrecy of investigation and complicates the task for the law enforcement agencies,” Lutsenko said.
“Those who are inside the law enforcement agencies thus earn popularity with the help of journalists or even make money by disclosing scoop, and as soon as we find them, they will be drummed out of the law enforcement agencies,” the Prosecutor General promised.
As reported, Sheremet was killed in the morning of July 20 in a car blast. The car belonged to his partner Olena Prytula.
July 22, the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reported that Troyan had not organized illegal spying upon the journalists, officials and the Head of the National Police.
