Ukrainian National Police Head: 900 cases opened over illegal actions of police
About 900 proceedings have been initiated against police officers for just a few months.
Head of the National Police of Ukraine Khatia Dekanoidze said this during the meeting of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda online newspaper reports.
She stressed that cleansing of the police was ongoing.
“We have opened 900 proceedings over illegal actions of police officers for several months,” Dekanoidze said.
Speaking about the recertification results, the Head of the National Police of Ukraine noted that 26% of senior leadership of the law enforcement agencies had been dismissed.
She recalled that the crime rate growth in Ukraine was now 23%, while 70% were the property crimes. 85% of crimes, according to Dekanoidze, are committed by the unemployed. In addition, 10% of persons released under so-called “Savchenko law” have committed crimes again.
However, Dekanoidze stressed that now the police registered almost 100% of crimes.
The Head of the National Police of Ukraine also complained about the low level of arrests by the courts. “Only every second robber and every sixth are arrested,” she said.
Dekanoidze once again said about the “poor” working conditions of police officers.
