‘LPR’, ‘DPR’ militants practice executions – Helsinki Union

The so-called “people’s courts”, which deliver death penalties, act in the territories of the self-proclaimed “DPR” and “LPR”.

This was stated by head of the analytical department of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union Oleh Martynenko, UNIAN news agency reports.

“There are no legal remedies for human rights in the territories, controlled by the illegal armed groups,” he said.

 “The so-called “commissioners for human rights” of the self-proclaimed ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’ and ‘Luhansk People’s Republic’ deal exclusively with exchange of prisoners of war. At the same time, despite the presence of these posts, the ‘people’s courts’ act in these territories and carry out executions,” Martynenko said.

According to him, the residents of the government-controlled territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions resort to the organization and report on the violations of human rights and freedoms on part of the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, particularly the Security Service of Ukraine.

Earlier, the Human Rights Information Centre reported that anti-Semitism was flourishing in the “DPR” and “LPR”.
