The Turkish coast guard has rescued 57 people who were stranded on a tiny island in the Aegean Sea.

The refugees were attempting to reach Greece, Associated Press reports.

As noted, the helicopters evacuated 12 people including three sick children from the islet near the Turkish coastal town of Dikili in Izmir province. Small fishing boats helped rescue the others.

There was no mention of fatalities or the nationalities of those rescued.

Meanwhile, Sweden restricts traffic through the Strait of Öresund connecting it with Denmark and introduces the border control regime, Deutsche Welle reports.

In 2015, Stockholm accepted more than 160,000 refugees, mostly from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Thus, Sweden and its ten million residents lead the European Union countries in the number of refugees per capita.

It was decided to examine the documents, despite the Schengen agreement, so far.

According to statistics, various vehicles cross the Öresund bridge 75,000 times every day. The delays due to border control will cost EUR 175,000, the Öresund Institute experts calculated.

In addition, the new measures to restrict the entry to Sweden have resulted in suspension of direct rail link between the central railway station of Copenhagen and the Swedish territory.
