Ukrainian Interior Minister wants to introduce ‘presumption of rightness’ for police
The Interior Ministry of Ukraine will submit to the Parliament a bill on “presumption of rightness for the police officers.”
This was stated by Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, BBC Ukraine reports.
The society needs to accept this imperative not as a restriction on civil liberties, but as an absolute rule of its own security, he said.
According to him, a citizen’s right to appeal against the actions of the police will not be limited, but only postponed for a short time under “first obey, then appeal” principle.
“This a great responsibility for the police. But there is no other way for development of the effective law-enforcement. The police force, which is being changed and reformed, should and will receive more rights and greater public confidence,” the Minister said.
