The lawyers of Ukrainian political prisoners Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko filed the cassational appeal against their sentences to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

Lawyer Dmitry Dinze said this to Interfax Russian news agency on Monday.

Dinze said that the cassational appeal had been sent to the court through the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation. The Office of the Commissioner confirmed the redirection of the appeal to the Supreme Court.

Key defendants in the case of “Crimean terrorists” Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko were sentenced for “plotting terrorist acts” to 20 and 10 years in a colony, respectively, on August 25, 2015. They were recognized as the political prisoners by the “Memorial” Human Rights Center and as the prisoners of conscience by the Amnesty International.

March 24, 2016, Russia officially recognized them as the citizens of Ukraine.
