300,000 children in Donbas need help to continue their education – UNICEF
Around one in five schools and kindergartens in the conflict-torn Donbas have been damaged or destroyed. Around 300,000 children are in immediate need of assistance to continue their education.
This is stated in the UNICEF report on the results of the visit of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Orlando Bloom to Donbas.
“Approximately 580,000 children are in urgent need of aid and more than 230,000 children have been forced from their homes. Around one in five schools and kindergartens in the region have been damaged or destroyed and around 300,000 children are in immediate need of assistance to continue their education,” the report reads.
The actor said that now survived children wanted to get back to the safety and routine of school and plan for their future. During his visit, he met with children who receive professional psychological support.
“Education is providing children in eastern Ukraine with the building blocks to rebuild their lives in a safe and supportive environment,” Bloom said.
Earlier, UNICEF reported that 200,000 children in Donbas are in need of psychological rehabilitation.
