The abductions and enforced disappearances of people started to occur in Crimea immediately after the peninsula’s occupation by the Russian Federation, the human rights activists of the Euromaidan SOS volunteer initiative say.

The victims of such actions have become the participants in peaceful demonstrations for the unity of Ukraine, the Ukrainian servicemen, the leaders of local EuroMaidan protests, the public activists, and the members of the Crimean Tatar community. All these cases have a clear trace of political motives and involuntary termination or change in the nature of public activities of the victims.
